How to improve your spoken English?

Spoken English is vital for success today. So many situations arise in our daily life where we have to communicate in English. Here are some tips which will help you in improving your spoken English.

  1. Listening – It is the most important step of learning spoken English which we often ignore. You should be able to understand the other person to strike a good conversation. Listening also helps you in understanding the language.
  2. Practice – As the saying goes practise makes a man perfect. So you should practice English speaking daily. It helps you gain confidence and also corrects your pronunciation. You can check Google as well for correct pronunciation of words.
  3. Reading – It is another component of learning impeccable English. It helps you learn and increase your vocabulary. It also helps you in understanding the grammar and improves the pronunciation of the words. 
  4. Think in English – When we think in our native language the sentences we form are not correct in English. You can practice thinking in English by speaking on topics.
  5. Make a partner – A partner who understands and speak English can do wonders for you. You can practices spoken English with him or her and he will not only make you speak but also speak correctly.
  6. Phrases and Idioms – You should not only concentrate on words but also learn phrases and idioms as well. When you use them in you speech you sound more natural and confident as well.
  7. Communication is Vital – You should give more emphasis on speaking and conveying your thoughts across rather than concentrating on grammar. Don’t be afraid of speaking in correct as nobody is perfect.
  8. Speaking slowly – Speak slowly as it will lend clarity to your voice and the other person will be able to understand. Native speakers also speak very slowly.
  9. Be creative – Don’t be rigid while speaking. Find new words to use so that when you speak you never stuck on a word. Always be relaxed when you speak and don’t panic if you are stuck midway while speaking.
  10. No accent – Never try to put on any accent as it will sound fake and there will be no clarity. Speak in natural tone confidently. Neutral accent is always appreciated and understood.
  11. Vocabulary – Although vocabulary plays an important role in enhancing your English speaking skills, but don’t go on memorising the new words. You can read books, magazines and watch movies to increase vocabulary.
  12. Conversation is important – Quite often in English classes emphasis is given on reading, writing and grammar. Although they are indispensable but remember it is spoken English gets you recognition.
  13. Watch Movies – You can also watch English movies and videos as you can learn normal spoken English through them. You also learn how natives speak English and communicate.
  14. Writing – You should practice writing your thoughts on any random topic or situation as it will help you think in English and also improve your though process.
  15. Join English speaking course – It will help you overcome your shortcomings and build your confidence. They concentrate more on spoken English rather than grammar and vocabulary and ease you into speaking fluently.
